MMPC April Meeting Summary

This month’s club meeting was held on Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. via Zoom and was attended by Jon Morgan (President/Founder), Tonya Huber (Vice President), Tree Rutherford, Kevin Harvey, and Crystal Stasiak

We welcomed new attendees Kevin and Crystal to the meeting.

The following upcoming events were discussed:

Ganiard Elementary School Artist Day

Tonya and Jon will be participating in Artist Day at Ganiard Elementary School in Mount Pleasant on Friday, April 24 from 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. They will be demonstrating puppet building and the process of performing with puppets for several groups of students. The students will receive puppet eyeball “rings” which will they will be able to use during the sessions and keep.

Children’s Village

Jon will be collaborating with Detroit-based puppeteer and Detroit Puppetry Guild president Jim Ellis and others during the Children’s Village from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. as a part of the Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival. They will split their performance between crowd engagement and a stage. The Children’s Village will be inside the Shepherd Elementary School gym.

Puppetry Classes

The Mid Michigan Puppetry Club will be partnering with Art Reach of Mid Michigan on a series of puppetry classes in last August/early September. The first classes will focus on building puppets, and the second class will center around performing with puppets. There are still a few details that are still being worked out.

Puppetry “Slam”

The club will be putting on a Puppetry Slam in September inside the Broadway Theater, which is located inside downtown Mount Pleasant. The event will serve as a chance for attendees of the classes to perform in front of an audience, as well as feature performances by puppeteers from around the state.

The performance troupe is looking at several possible gigs, most of which are in different stages.
